Nokia N96 Mobile Phone Review

INTRODUCTION
The Nokia N96 is basically an upgraded version of the previous Nokia N95. Compare to its predecessors, Nokia N96 is equipped with 16 GB internal flash memory and integrated DVB-H tuner for mobile TV. Unfortunately, not all countries have DVB-H system broadcasting. Many peoples complaining about its battery life, it’s even worse than the Nokia N95. Personally, I recharged my battery everyday. So, I wouldn’t notice any lack of battery life. My friend had his Nokia N96 running without recharging for up to 4 days.
DESIGN
The Nokia N96 has a smooth rounded corner compare to Nokia N95 which has a sharp corner. The Nokia N96 is designed to make it looks much more modern and sleeker than Nokia N95. The keypads on Nokia N96 will only visible when it illuminated. The size of the Nokia N96 cell phone is slightly bigger than Nokia N95.
Front Panel:
The Nokia N96 is equipped with a 2.8 inch QVGA display, up to 16 million colors with 240 x 320 pixels. The screen displays sharp and colorful images. At the top of the front panel, there are pinhole VGA camera and earpiece. Below it, there are the basic navigation keys, five-way d-pad and hidden multimedia playback controls which light up when in use. Sliding up the phone will reveal the standard dial keys.
Right Panel:
At the right side of the phone features top and bottom corner stereo speakers, volume controller under the top speaker and a camera button just above the bottom speaker.
Left Panel:
At the left side of the phone is where the covered microSDHC card slot resided. It can support up to 16 GB of microSDHC cards.
Top Panel:
On the top side, it has the 3.5mm headphone/TV-Output jack, power button and the key-lock switch button.
Bottom Panel:
At the bottom side of the phone, it has the microUSB data connector port and the 2mm Nokia pin charging port.
Back Panel:
The back side of the Nokia N96 is equipped with a single piece of glossy dark plastic back panel cover. It also houses the 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss digital camera and dual LED flash.
TELEPHONY FUNCTION
With all the high-end hardware in the Nokia N96, it still can perform well as a telephone device. The phone is powered by Symbian S60 Feature Pack 2 (version 3.2) Operating System. It provides better power and wireless connection management. The Nokia N96 user interface remain the same as it previous predecessors. The voice quality is the usual high Nokia standard. The phone functions can be access and navigate easily because of the user friendly interface.
WIRELESS AND MULTIMEDIA
The Nokia N96 is more like a portable multimedia device with phone attached on it. There are many functions on it that users can utilize such as the WI-FI, GPRS, 16 GB of storage for your favorite music and videos, 5 mega-pixel digital camera, etc.
Wireless Connectivity:
There is the new Destinations feature in the Symbian S60 Feature Pack 2 which enables the automatic switching connectivity option. The Bluetooth function on this phone also very stable and versatile.
GPS:
There is a built in GPS which comes with applications such as Nokia Maps 2.0.
16 GB Storage:
There is a 16 GB of internal storage which is perfect for storing your pictures, music, videos and even maps taken from Nokia Maps 2.0.
Gaming:
The Nokia N96 is equips with the N-GAGE Platform. There are also preloaded games on it.
Camera:
The built-in camera on this phone is the 5 mega-pixel and Carl Zeiss-equipped digital camera which provide good color balance and quick shutter speed. There is also a geo tagging function on this camera. This camera also provides easier integration with online photo sharing such as Ovi and Flickr. The double LED flash function on this phone is best for video recording to give a better and brighter lighting on the images taken.
CONCLUSION
The Nokia N96 looks better than Nokia N95 because of its smoothly rounded corner. Despite it is wider and taller than Nokia N95; it is actually slimmer than Nokia N95. The Nokia N96 is more like a multimedia workstation, which is what people need in a cell phone nowadays. We require more than just a simple communication device.
The 16 GB internal memory storage is an added feature for new users, but it is hardly worth the money for Nokia N95 users to replace theirs to N96 considering the 16 GB microSD memory cards are now available for $58 at Amazon.com. As for the DVB-H tuner on Nokia N96 is useless for users on unsupported broadcasting countries.

Apple iPhone Fighting For Portable Game Console Supremacy?

“It’s not a phone, it’s a console experience”. This is what John Geleynse (Apple’s Director of Technology Evangelism) said during the “iPhone Tech Talk” in San Jose recently. There are some early indicators that Apple is trying to position themselves inside the game console market, such as the recent interview with Greg Joswiak (VP of iPod and iPhone product marketing) where he talked about the comparison of 3D graphic power on iPod touch and Nintendo DS. Besides that, Apple also putting some effort in showing their iPhone and iPod gaming capabilities at the recent TV Ads for their products. On top of that, the series of “EA Games Sneak Peek” events held at Apple stores around the US also shows that Apple is aggressively pushing their iPhone and iPod into the mobile gaming market.
Apple is going to find tough time in gaining market share when competing with Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. As Nintendo made up 79% of all portable gaming hardware sales in November. Besides that, Apple also has to come up with a strong marketing strategy to compete with the Gillette razor/razor blade strategy of Nintendo and Sony; They sell their gaming hardware as cheap as possible and even at loss, but they gain their profit margin on the games they sold.
It’s too early to say whether Apple can break into the mobile gaming market with its iPhone and iPod. Can Apple compete with Nintendo DS and Sony PSP with its high price hardware and low price games? Will cutting the price on iPhone and iPod hardware be compensate by its profit on cheaper games than Nintendo and Sony. Well, these questions will be answer in the coming years, we all have to look at where the trend will go for casual gaming experience.

U.S Consumers Are Not Cutting Back On Buying Video Games

Despite the economic recession, the retail sales of U.S. video games in November are showing a 10 percent increase from a year ago. The Overall sales of U.S. video games this year through November had increased by 22 percent from the sales of 2007.
The report released by market researcher NPD Group showing that U.S. consumers are not cutting back on buying video games. The increasing sales of video games also contribute to the 5 percent increase sales of gaming hardware to $494.7 million.
The report also shows that Nintendo Wii is leading the way in the battle of game console by selling 803,000 units in October. Microsoft Xbox 360 only manage to take the second spot by selling over 370,000 units in October with their price cut sales. In third, Sony Playstation 3 seen an increase of 18.2 percent over the previous month with 190,000 units of their PS3 Console sold.
According to Anita Frazier (NPD Group Analyst), the sales of video games remain strong despite the slowing economy mainly contribute by the variation of wide content on newer generation game consoles such as Nintendo’s Wii, Microsoft’s XBOX 360 and Sony’s Playstation 3.
U.S. consumers still consider video games are the cheapest form of entertainment because the hours of gaming entertainment value a video game can provide. Matt Helgeson (Senior Editor, Game Informer magazine) also agrees that some video games can take up to three months of playing time to complete and they “provide the ultimate escapism” during these recession times. Video games are not only for kids anymore, they had cut across ages, gender, races, social groups, etc. It is not about “Do you play video games?” anymore, It is “What games are you playing?” now.

Comparing iPods: Which iPod Model Should You Get?

Apple makes the world’s most popular MP3 players called iPods. Their very impressive lineup of iPod models have completely blown away all the other MP3 players on the market since iPods first started being sold back in 2001.
There are four different models of iPods. They are iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, and iPod Touch. Each varies differently in price and features. Just follow the iPod buying guide below to find out some more details about the different model of iPods and which would be the best for you.

The iPod Shuffle

Buy iPod Shuffle Online With Free ShippingThe iPod shuffle is the cheapest and smallest in size of all the iPods. You can either get the iPod shuffle with 1GB of storage, which holds up to 240 songs and costs $49, or you can get the iPod shuffle with 2GB of storage, which holds 500 songs and costs $69. Because the iPod shuffle is so small and only weighs about 15 grams, anyone can easily clip it onto their belt, pocket, or sleeve. So this iPod would definitely be the ideal choice for joggers or people who are looking for a light portable MP3 player.
The biggest downside to the iPod shuffle is you don’t get to easily find and pick the song that you want to listen to. It just completely shuffles all your music in a random order. So if you’re one of those people who will some days like country music and soft rock music, and then other days like rap or hip-hop music, this probably isn’t the best iPod for you.

The iPod Nano

Apple iPod Nano SilverThe iPod nano has a very sleek design and really good features to go along with it. The iPod nano is one step up from the iPod shuffle. There are two different types of iPod nano you can choose from. You can either get the one with 8GB of storage, which holds 2,000 songs and 8 hours of videos for $124.99, or you can get the one with 16GB of storage, which holds 4,000 songs and 16 hours of videos.
Some newer features that were just added to the new iPod nano are very appealing. One of the new features is when you turn the iPod to the side, a new screen will come up with all of your song’s album covers, and you can pick your song that way. Another new feature is when you give your iPod a shake, it will change to another song.
Another great thing about the iPod nano is its weight and appearance. It only weighs about 36 grams, so it is easy to carry with you anywhere you go. The best part about its appearance is it doesn’t show scratches as easily as the iPod video of the iPod touch. Especially on the back of the iPod video and the iPod touch, you will most commonly see many scratches, and those scratches don’t show as easily on the iPod nano.
To be perfectly honest, there is not much of a down side to the iPod nano, unless you don’t like how small it is. For people who don’t have the best vision, it may be hard to see and read everything that’s on the screen on the nano.

The iPod Classic

Apple iPod Classic 120GB Portable Media PlayerThe new iPod classic is based off the first iPod Apple ever made. Without a doubt, the biggest advantage of the iPod classic is the substantial amount of storage room. The iPod classics have 120GB of storage. That holds 30,000 songs and 150 hours of video.
This is the Apple’s most expensive base price iPod. You can buy it at a bargain price of $219.97 at Buy.com. You are really paying for the storage with this iPod classic. If you don’t need all of that room for those 30,000 songs, then it’s probably not worth getting the iPod classic.
Another big downside to this iPod classic is its weight. It weighs about 150 grams, which isn’t ideal to be carrying everywhere. But as stressed before, if you need that kind of substantial storage for your iPod, this is the perfect iPod for you!

The iPod Touch

Apple iPod Touch Screen Media PlayerThe iPod touch is definitely one of Apple’s most advanced iPods. It has a large touch screen display. On the iPod, there is a free built-in Wi-Fi for internet surfing capability. So you can check your email, watch YouTube, check the weather, and more!
Although the iPod touch screen seems really cool at first, but it is not for everyone. Especially for people with oily hands, or those who eat while listening to your iPod, the touch screen can get mucked up and hard to control.
One of the really cool things about the iPod touch is you can put games on it. Some games are free, but others you need to pay for. Some of the games have a Nintedo Wii-like feature where you need to move the iPod in certain directions as the controls for the game which is really cool.
The other feature that definitely makes purchasing songs and videos a lot easier and more convenient is you can buy songs on your iPod touch through the Apple store. You don’t need to go to your computer, buy your song, and upload it anymore. Buying songs is one click away on your iPod touch.

How to Improve Cell Phone Battery Lifespan

The lifespan of your cell phone battery depends on how you use your cell phone on day to day basis. If you do not take proper care, the cell phone battery may get discharged and you may have to buy a new cell phone battery. Improper handling and negligence like over charging can also be hazardous.
Here are some tips to improve the life expectancy of your cell phone battery. Most of these tips are very simple and straight forward. However, by following them consistently you can ensure that you won’t have to get your cell phone battery replaced for a long time to come.
Keep your cell phone clean: With regular usage, your cell phone will accumulate dust. These dust particles can get deposited on the contacts of the batteries and can reduce their lifespan. To keep your phone dust free, wipe the phone regularly with a dry cloth. Remove the cell phone battery and gently wipe its contacts to remove any lodged dust particles.
Wiping your cellphone with a rough cloth can cause scratches. Check that the cloth you use is soft enough not to scratch the phone’s body. Also ensure that the cloth you’re using is clean enough as dust particles lodged in the fibers of the cloth may be abrasive and can cause scratches. Never use any organic solvents to clean your phone. These solvents can dissolve paint and also can erase the characters on the phone’s key pad.
Keep your cell phone dry: Moisture can cause the terminals of the battery to short and get discharged. For this reason, it is very important to protect your mobile phone from moisture. One of the best ways to do so is to use a plastic cell phone cover. Using a cell phone cover will not only improve the life of your phone, but it will also prevent scratches to the phone surface.
In case your phone gets wet, take it to cell phone repair shop and get it repaired. Do not charge the wet phone as it can damage the internal circuitry.
Recharge for the optimum period: Most cellphones in the market have an automatic recharge timer. Once your cell phone battery gets completely charged, the charging gets turned off automatically. However, some cellphones do not have this function. If your phone doesn’t have automatic turn off, proper care should be taken while charging. Excessive charging can damage the battery and reduce the lifespan significantly. In extreme cases, the battery may even explode and cause physical injury. For this reason, never charge your phone for longer periods than what is specified.
For safety, it is recommended that your check your phone’s battery once in a while. Remove the battery from the phone and observe for discoloration or discharge. If you find any leakage or swelling and deformation, consult a repairman and have it replaced immediately. Negligence can damage other parts of the phone and can be dangerous.

Samsung D980 Dual Sim Touchscreen Review

I bet you can still remember the Samsung’s unsuccessful attempt to make their own first Touchscreen cell phone with Dual SIM Card capabilities – The P720. It had to be canceled because of compability issues between their Dual SIM card UI and Armani phone like device. Now after making some improvement with their touchscreen capabilities – TouchWiz Interface, and added Dual SIM functionality, their new Samsung D980 DuoS is now ready to be market.
The Samsung D980 DuoS is currently retails at RM1,999 in Malaysia. When you turn on the D980, you’ll be amazed by its bright and attractive 2.6 inch touchscreen display with a dimension of 240 x 320 pixels and 262,000 color features.
The Samsung D980 has a great touchscreen widgets built into it. The response time of D980 is pretty fast. Looks like Samsung really utilize its TouchWiz feature on this D980. You can move the widgets to enable easy access to the items on your phone’s desktop such as clock, messages, radio, games, calculator, etc. These floating icons can be move to the corner of your phone or to the sidebar holder of your D980. You can also access your commonly used application such as inbox, music player, web browser or bluetooth by tapping on the sidebar at the top of the D980′s screen.
The stylish and glossy surface of the Samsung D980 Dual SIM Touchscreen Phone can sometimes attracts unwanted dirts and fingerprints, making the screen looks awful. You’ll have to spend most of the time wiping your touchscreen each time you used it.
You can have two SIM cards running on this phone at the same time. The D980 will prompt you to insert your SIM cards the first time you use it so that it can configure the setting automatically to enable the Dual SIM capabilities. This phone’s Dual SIM cards is suitable for those who carry around two mobile phones, one for work and one for leisure, if you know what I mean…Now, you can send, receive messages from both of your SIM cards’ contacts. Receive call in and call out from both phone lines. The downside of this Dual SIM feature on D980 is the internal built-in message storage. It can only hold a total of 200 messages or 240 messages if you include the SIM card storage.
The design of this phone is slightly smaller and more compact than its previous predecessors. Its navigation menu is straightforward and easy to understand. Everything are within the reach of each other because of its simple menu and directory system. Most of the buttons and apps on the touchscreen are finger friendly and easy to navigate. If you are a keypad typing person before, you’ll find that touchscreen texting is a whole different experience. Good news is you wouldn’t have to deal with the problem of keypad button’s characters wore off on this phone.
The 5.0 megapixel camera on the Samsung D980 is fully compact with features such as 15 scene modes, face detection, adjustable resolution sizes, etc. The D980′s camera can also act as a video camera where you can record high quality video and saved it on your phone. The D980 is truly a multimedia phone that you must have.
In conclusion, the Samsung D980 DuoS touchscreen is a beautiful and stylish cell phone. With its bright and colorful display screen and fast responsive time of its touchscreen, it is sad to find out that this phone does not have WIFI and 3G capabilities. You can still connect to internet using the EDGE connectivity, but it is slow and expensive.
Overall review on the Samsung D980 Dual SIM Touchscreen phone showing that the pros of having this phone are the use of its Dual SIM function, fast responsive touchscreen features, nifty widgets, easy to navigate menu and nice on screen keypad. The downsides are mirrored surface of the screen can attract a lot of dirts and thumbprints, constant cleaning is necessary. Its messages storage is too small which can only hold 200 messages and the most disappointing is the lack of WIFI and 3G functions on this phone.
That’s all fellow geekers, the Samsung D980 is best use or worth the money if you are using separate phone lines for business and personal by utilizing its Dual SIM cards function. If you’re a internet mobile surfer, then the D980 is not for you because this phone as mentioned before does not have WIFI and even 3G.

BlackBerry Javelin Cell Phone Review

Since the BlackBerry Javelin has come to town things just will not be the same. This is a great smaller BlackBerry sure to please users anywhere. Take a quick look at this BlackBerry Javelin cell phone review and make up your own mind instead of just wondering.
The BlackBerry Javelin is also called the “BlackBerry 8900″. This new smartphone has a lot going for it. It is similar to the “Curve” also made by BlackBerry, but it is more powerful and even smaller. The initial reaction to those who are already using BlackBerry products like the Curve is that it just “feels right”. The battery door will hold the micro SD card ( hot swappable ) and is engineered with an automatic “grip” that is a nice option. The latching device for the door is integrated in the door and not in the body of the BlackBerry Javelin. If the latch ever breaks, you replace the door, not the body of the BlackBerry Javelin. This is both easier and cheaper. Once you get the door open, the micro SD card and the SIM card are inside. The micro SD card is easily removed, while getting at the SIM card requires the removal of the battery. Once the battery is out it is an easy reach to remove the SIM on the BlackBerry Javelin.
If you are a speed freak you will want to get your hands on the BlackBerry Javelin. For those concerned with performance, the BlackBerry Javelin comes with a 512 megahertz processor. You also get 256 megabytes of onboard flash memory. Not bad, but not quite as fast as the BlackBerry Bold. However, it is faster than the BlackBerry Pearl or Curve.
For the outer looks, the BlackBerry Javelin comes in ahead of the pack. The navigation buttons are flush with the lens of the screen to promote a smooth look. The QWERTY keyboard has what is called the “sweet spot”. It is a narrow type of keyboard that some say is too small. This will of course depend on the size of your fingers. You have to remember the BlackBerry Javelin is small compared to other BlackBerry models. The BlackBerry Javelin will slide right into your pocket. Some call it a mini sized BlackBerry Bold. The camera is on the back of the BlackBerry Javelin. It is a 3.2 megapixel camera. Though there nothing really special about the graphic ability of the camera, there is something that is. The camera is enclosed in one piece of glass. This is a nice touch for the Javelin.
One down side of the BlackBerry Javelin is that it lacks 3G capability. For many people this will keep them away from the Javelin. This lack of 3G makes the BlackBerry Javelin slower since the 3G technologies enable data to be transferred faster. Despite this lack of data speed, other things like the clear, bright screen and the neat micro USB charging port are great features. The lock button is hidden in the top corner and is under the smooth casing. All in all, the BlackBerry Javelin is an attractive yet small package with some big benefits for those who buy it.

BlackBerry Curve Cell Phone Review

Ever want to own a BlackBerry Curve? This bluetooth-enabled media player is not just for email. It is slim and trim and is something that will fit inside your pocket. Take a look at Digitalgeeky’s BlackBerry Curve cell phone review below:
To start with the positive, the BlackBerry Curve has a modest price of around $200 dollars. This is through AT&T and you must get a two year contract. If you want it without a contract the price is going to go up somewhere around one hundred dollars. The name is “Curve” and it is just as curvy as the other BlackBerry models. It is an attractive looking cell phone with its black and silver layout although the 8350i model is darker than the other models. You may also get it in a dark red model. The keypad is a plus, with the buttons being spaced very well and no “slippery” experiences while using it. The BlackBerry Curve is easy while being used as a phone even though it is wider than most regular cell phones. The overall small design will have you ignoring its width.
The BlackBerry Curve comes in five different model numbers such as 8300, 8330, 8350i, 8310, and 8320. The main difference between all the model numbers is that the lower numbers represent a BlackBerry Curve that does not have video recording. The Curve 8300 and 8320 models do not have GPS, and the 8350i is the only model to have PTT ( Push To Talk ). The 8350i has a 2 megapixel camera with zoom, flash and video recording. To enhance the video, the BlackBerry Curve 8350i has an advanced media player. The expandable micro SD slot will allow you to keep more of those videos on file or load them up on your computer. This model also has stereo Bluetooth version 2.0, wifi, and built-in GPS capabilities. The prices start at $150 with a Sprint contract and top out around $600 elsewhere for the BlackBerry Curve 8350i.
Some of the best things about the BlackBerry Curve is the camera and the way you can text with one hand. The camera takes great, clear pictures and with the enhanced storage abilities via the micro SD card, you can be sharing them even more. Can you get about one thousand photos on the BlackBerry Curve? Yes! When it is time for texting, it is quick and easy, as a BlackBerry should be. You will be flying through your texts and emails with much greater ease. Why not take a look at a BlackBerry Curve and see all these great features for yourself ?

Google Nexus One VS Apple IPhone

Is the Google Nexus One for You?
The hype about the Google Nexus One phone was enough that practically every tech-savvy phone owner was drooling over the possibility of getting one. As always in these circumstances, the rumours proved to be a little more tempting than the reality, with talk of $200 unlocked phones soon being shot down. It could be tempting, in the circumstances, to go to the opposite extreme and suggest that no one needs this phone while Apple’s iPhone is out there. Instead, let’s take a careful look at both, and try to find areas where each wins out.
Applications
The Google Nexus One is up against stiff competition here. The Apple iPhone is rightly famous for its array of apps, and programmers have had since 2007 to come up with effective ones. In its corner, the Nexus has the fact that it is using an existing open source operating system in the form of Android, and that Google seems to have made sure that there will be a fairly good initial menu of applications to choose from. Combined with the speed at which new apps for both formats will probably be produced, there seems to be little to choose between them here.
Specifications
It can be easy to get too hung up on the specifications of new gadgets, but most of the time the differences don’t make that big an impact on your experience using them. Who will really notice, for example, that the Google Nexus One’s screen is 0.2” bigger than the iPhone 3G’s? There are two differences that you might notice though. Google’s smart phone offers 4GB of SD memory to either 16 or 32GB of flash memory on the iPhone, giving Apple’s option a significant advantage when it comes to storage. It loses out though in the battery stakes, offering similar life to the Nexus in most areas, but only five hours of talk time to the other handset’s ten.
Camera Options
One other area in which there seems to be a clear difference is in the two phones’ camera modes, where Google’s offering gives you 5-megapixel and Apple iPhone only gives you 3-megapixel, along with a digital zoom function. It means that the Nexus One can function on a level comparable with most decent compact digital cameras, along with the more basic SLRs. Whether that would be one of your primary considerations in buying a phone is perhaps debatable, but if you’re the sort of person who likes to snap away on a mobile, it might make the difference.
Should You Switch?
Even in terms of price, there isn’t that much to choose between the two smart phones, with the 16GB iPhone being only $20 more expensive than the contract version of the Nexus One, which is the one most people will probably want, given the expense of the $529 unlocked version.
So, you probably won’t buy Google’s Nexus One if you already own an iPhone. On the other hand, there’s no reason why, if you find yourself looking for your first smart phone, you shouldn’t give it some serious consideration.
